A Hole Of One’s Own was a three-day event held in late August 2023 in Berlin. Conceived by Marie Dubus, the event featured an installation of fabric, video, and sound that served as a backdrop for various happenings: a live two-hour sound performance by Tomás Altamirano, poetry readings by Tendre, and gatherings of all kinds of living beings.

The event aimed to rethink the role of art and the artist, using the installation as a starting point for other forms of expression. Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s famous essay, the space was designed as a comfortable, ephemeral environment for others to create. The collective nature of the event, from building the installation to organizing communal moments, reflected the belief that such spaces can only exist through collective action.

A Hole Of One’s Own was hosted at Kiezkiosk Open Tiny, a neighborhood space in Neukölln, Berlin, previously a spätie. Its location on the sidewalk next to a bus stop fostered encounters and rooted the event in public space, reclaiming the right to the city, a place for collective transformation.
